Hello Friends and Family,
Last week was one that was very eventful and the impact will stay with me for a long time. As many of you know I am a member of the Emma L. Bowen Foundation, which is a foundation that helps minorities get into the media industry. “The Foundation’s program is unlike traditional intern programs in that students work for partner companies during summers and school breaks from the summer following their junior year in high school until they graduate from college.” (http://www.emmabowenfoundation.com/main.html)
There are over 200 interns through this foundation around the country. Every year they host a Conference for us in New York City, NY. I blogged about that experience earlier this summer.
Each student gets to experience another conference, this only happens once for each student. The conference is called iLink. It is a much smaller conference and it is 3 days of jammed pack trai
ning and equipping. We are put into teams of 4 or less and have mentors that are assigned to our teams. These mentors are directors in their companies, companies that are all in the media industry. Along with learning a great deal, each team is assigned a project that we have to research and prepare a 30 min. presentation on our findings. We were given a case study/simulation. Basically each group was a part of a newly formed Innovations team in a company where change is coming. Each group was to pretend as if the other groups were the employees and we had to prepare them for what was coming.
My group
was group 1 and we had the task of Embracing Change the team name we came up with was Growing U, Growing Us, A New Horizon. We had to help the employees realize that Change is good when you embrace; we also spoke about how to prepare for change and how to make a successful change. We did a great job on our project and our presentation was great. Not only was it great but while we were working on it our group became great friends and we will stay in touch with one another. This conference was great and I learned so much and took many notes.
Also please keep me in prayer concerning my car. I was supposed to travel to Indiana and get it this past week. But it was not ready yet. I will not go into detail of what is wrong, but please keep my family and myself in your prayers. Pray that he will give us wisdom on what to do and favor with the people working on the car.
I also had some fun this past weekend. I traveled to Cove City, NC with my good friend and teammate
from school, Jon Hubbard. We went up there to see our friend and my roommate this coming fall Tyler Hawkins, who also goes to Montreat. Cove City is right near the coast of NC. We traveled up there Friday evening and hung out at Tyler’s house for the night. On Saturday we went to this place on a river where there was like a jungle gym on the water. It was filled with diving boards, swings, and a zip line. The highest jump point was 5 stories high. I did not jump from that high but Tyler did. After that we drove down to the beach and played in the ocean, threw the football around and just had a great time hanging out. I am really looking forward to school starting because I know it will be a great time.
Until next time please keep my family and me in your prayers.
And Remember YOU HAVE A DESTNY!!!!
